[Cooper, 2004] There are examples when representatives have been known to drag out things since they don't feel to be in the state of mind to do as such. This is a complete proclamation with respect to the representatives that they were enrolled wrongly at the hour of their employing and the association did to be sure commit an error in picking such a laborer over different alternatives that were accessible to it, in the United Kingdom as well as around the globe. It has been seen that on occasion, the top line faculty present in workplaces delegate occupations and assignments to their sub-ordinates without feeling that the equivalent probably won't be the right way and method of activity as to approach doing the undertakings and obligations. They imagine that appointment would thrive a feeling of getting more work inside the sub-ordinates who themselves are essentially busy with their effectively doled out undertakings and employments. This is henceforth not the right way in which things ought to be done and subsequently a need must be chalked out to ramify exactly the same issue. The most ideal assorted variety that could be made in such manner is to designate top line supervisors who comprehend the mind of the individuals working under the person in question or on a similar level as his with the goal that the individual in question can get a grip regarding what representatives for the most part are most appropriate at and what they don't in cline toward under certain exhausting conditions in the workplace place condition. It requires patience, research, reading voraciously, and above allâ"practice. In the process, a writers lexicon should be consistently curated, since words are the basis of the writing profession, and words that are vague or superfluous should be replaced with better ones or deleted. If you want to sharpen your craft, here are 30 words and phrases to remove from your writing now.Down, up (if following sat or stood)In most cases when you see these two words following sat or stood, its superfluous. She sat down in the chair could be she sat in the chair, and they stood up to sing could be they stood to sing. The point here is to keep your writing as sharp as possible.ThatIn many cases, use of that is either superfluous or incorrect. The book that is on my bookshelf could be the book on my bookshelf and retain the same meaning. The night that were going to the baseball game should rather be the night were going to the baseball game. That is also i ncorrectly used when referring to people. For example, I have a friend that plays cello is incorrect. You dont have a friend that plays cello. You have a friend who plays cello. In the same sense, My aunt that is visiting from Florida should be my aunt who is visiting from Florida.Said, asked, replied, whispered, demanded or any other dialogue tags (after the first few sentences of dialogue)Instead of using dialogue tags, which slow the pacing of the story, reserve them for the first few sentences of dialogue then ditch them afterwards. After your reader understands the order that the characters are speaking in, theyll catch whos saying what without these distractions. You can also use actions taking place between and around dialogue to help note who is saying each line. Consider the two examples below. Which one has the better pacing?Example 1What time is the meeting tonight, asked Steve.I have no clue, said Terrance, but they sent out an email this morning.Yeah, my email inbox is s wamped with complaints, said Steve.Complaints? said Terrance.Dont ask, said Steve.Example 2Steve stopped, knowing now why he felt like he was forgetting something all morning. What time is the meeting tonight?I have no clue, but they sent out an email this morning. Terrance didnt bother to look up from his work.Yeah, my email inbox is swamped with complaints.Complaints? At least now Terrance was interested.Dont ask.Think, thought, felt, feel, realize, wonderUsing these words in your story is a great example of telling vs. showing. You dont have to tell your reader that the main character is thinking something. Simply put it in italics to show that its a mental process within the narration.Or alternatively, state it. If your protagonist wonders whether the love of his life is gone for good, dont write he wondered if the love of his life is gone for good. Instead, write the question: Was the love of his life gone for good? The fact he is wondering this is implied in the narration, so the reader sees what the character is wondering about without being told that the character is, in fact, wondering. You dont have to tell your reader that the main character is thinking something. Simply put it in italics to show that its a mental process within the narration. Photo by Nathan Cowley from Pexels.WentThis is one of those lazy words that should be replaced with something more descriptive and compelling. Instead of writing, She went to church you could rather write she drove to church. Instead of writing, He went to soccer practice you could rather write he ran to soccer practice. See how that changes the image? Not only did you avoid a vague word, but you used the same word count to offer more detail for your reader.HonestlyThis word might be more often used in nonfiction or blog articles, but if youre a writer, you should immediately strike it from your vocabulary unless youre using it to describe how someone else has spoken or done something. While its mostly used to a dd emphasis, when its used for this purpose, it immediately implies that the other words youve written are not honest. Honestly, Id rather watch a Netflix show than go to the movies is exactly like saying Id rather watch a Netflix show than go to the movies, except there is implication that youre only now being honest. Additionally, as mentioned for that, extra words should always be removed for sharper writing unless you are going for a purposefully chatty, informal vernacular.Absolutely, totallyWhile usually intended to add emphasis, these words are the epitome of redundancy and are almost never needed. If something is important, its important. Making it absolutely important or totally important doesnt change anything. In the same sense, if something is essential, making it absolutely essential doesnt make it any more essential than it was before adding absolutely to it.Very, really, rather, quiteThese words are modifiers but should always be replaced with a better word to sharpen up your writing. For starters, they signal a young and/or inexperienced writer. If youre using them in dialogue between young people, thats another story, but if its coming from youâ"the narratorâ"find a better, more engaging replacement. For example, you could describe a really beautiful day or say it is a dazzling day. You could mention that a road trip will be very long or you could rather describe it as immense, far-reaching or lengthy. Regardless of what youre describing, you will always be able to find a more suitable replacement for very and really. If you choose the right adjective, it shouldnt need to be qualified. If youre stuck, simply pull up an online thesaurus and get unstuck quickly.Writer and humorist Mark Twain had a useful solution to removing unneeded modifiers from your writing. Substitute damn every time youre inclined to write very. Your editor will delete it and the writing will be just as it should be.Florence King, American novelist, essayist and columnist , put it like this: Very is the most useless word in the English language and can always come out. More than useless, it is treacherous because it invariably weakens what it is intended to strengthen.AmazingAt one time, amazing was just fine to use. It means causing astonishment, great wonder, or surprise and is used constantly in everything from slogans to speeches to social media posts to conversations about sports or the weather. Simply put: its overused. Heres a list of less-overused words that express the same (or nearly the same) concept.FascinatingIncredibleMarvelousStunningSurprisingUnbelievableAstoundingMiraculousMind-blowingStaggeringWonderfulAlways, neverThese words create absolutes and can make your writing seem inaccurate or even closed-minded. To say that something always happens is to claim that you have an omniscient view of an incident, across locations, situations, and even time periods. Obviously, this is not the case.Women dont always nag their husbands and dogs dont always torment cats. It doesnt always rain in Seattle and children dont always say mean things to each other. In the same sense, claiming that it never rains in the desert or love never lasts makes the writer seem unprofessional, overly confident, and simply wrong. Thats why using these words in your writing should be avoided.LiterallyIf this word is used correctly, it denotes something that happens exactly as stated, in the literal sense. However, youll often see it doing the opposite, or used with a figurative expression (as in, That literally scared me to death!). If you literally thought you were dying, be sure that was the case before using the term. Or even betterâ"dont use it at all and simply note how you thought you were dying. Rarely does the use of the term add important information and as mentioned regarding several of the words on this list, extraneous or vague words are best left unwritten.JustThis is another filler word that adds nothing to the meaning of the se ntence, unless it is used to describe an action that is based on, or person behaving according to what is morally right and fair (the literal definition of the word). Think of it as sugar. Its best to leave it alone entirely, but if you must use it, moderation is best. Its nothing but empty calories.Think of words like just as sugar. Its best to leave it alone entirely, but if you must use it, moderation is best. Its nothing but empty calories. Photo by Mali Maeder from Pexels.Stuff, thingsWeve all met that person who overuses thing when they cant remember the word for the object to which theyre referring. Stuff falls into the same category and neither should be used by writers who would be expected to have an above-average vocabulary. Be specific!IrregardlessThis is one of those words the majority will get wrong, since many who use it dont realize that its meaning is regardless. Although it is a word, it is nonstandard in that its prefix (ir-) and suffix (-less) create a double neg ative. Since its meaning is often misunderstood, combined with a double negative thats confusing, its best to avoid using it at all. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series in 2016 to end a 108 year championship drought. What do they have in common? The teams both had a success in the early 20th century, but both blundered for extensive amounts of time before winning another world championship. Both had to overcome a huge deficit to complete their championship winning seasons. Both teams were coming off a successful season the year before, and had big offseason acquisitions to strengthen their team as well mid- season acquisitions. Red Sox reliever Calvin Schiraldi retired the first two batters, putting the team within one out of winning the World Series. However, the New York Mets scored three runs and winning it when Boston first baseman Bill Buckner allowed a ground ball to roll through his legs. In 2003, the Red Sox were playing the Yankees in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series. New York rallied against the tired Martà nez, scoring three runs on a single and three doubles to tie the game. This is caused by directors that are considered auteurs. These directors wanted their viewers to be able to come up with their own meaning instead of just giving it to them. They want the audience to think as they watch the movie, instead of sitting there blank. So what is an auteur? An auteur, defined from our book, is a ââ¬Å"a director or other creative intelligence with a recognizable and distinctive style who is considered the prime ââ¬Ëauthorââ¬â¢ of a filmâ⬠(Film Analysis 1063). An auteur creates movies as a form of art to portray what they feel to people. They can portray feelings of politics, love, sexuality and other feelings. We watched five films created by five different and unique auteurs. The three I am going to talk about are Alfred Hitchcock, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and Spike Lee. I think each of these three directors are auteurs and I am going to give a few examples of how they are. First and foremost, all three of these directors have styles that are very similar throughout their movies. For Hitchcockââ¬â¢s movies, there seems to always be a suspense theme added to his films. Expenditure Cycle and McDonalds Describe theory and discuss how is expenditure cycle helped McDonald. Make it disscussion? Answer: 1. Segregation of Duties at Telstra: Separation of duties is also known as the Segregation of duties (SoD). It is the concept to more than one person requires completing a given task. In business to prevent error and fraud, sharing one single task is required. It involves breaking down a task in different modules which reasonably are completed using more than one resource person. A common Segregation of Duties (SoD) for payroll need to have only one responsible person for accounting portion of job and other one is responsible for the signing the check. Though Segregation of Duties improves security, it also breaks down the task into separate component, which put the negative impact on business efficiency and increase the cost, staffing the requirements and complexity. Hence, most of the organization applies Segregation of Duties (SoD) to only vulnerable and to the most critical span of the business. Here approach is to engage suppliers for different task, which is careful balancing between achieving best possible value for money and excellence in customer service results (Telstra.com.au, 2015). There are number of stages involved in sourcing and selection, which includes: Identification of goods, services and business needs. To meet the requirements, invitations need to be sent to the supplier to encourage for the quoting or to submit tender or proposal to meet the requirements. Now, while assessing the supplier based on the range of criteria, segregation is done, which includes: Best possible value for money over the contract duration. Performance and quality. Reliability, capacity and timeliness to supply. Contribution and innovation to the competitive position of Telstra. Environmental and social performance. Safety and health considerations. Commercial risk. Agreement negotiation to give supply to the Telstra. 2. Revenue Cycle and Qantas: Revenue cycle can be defined as different perspective drawn on the normal sales cycle, in which calculation start on the very day when company met the potential customers and started following the transaction throughout the counting, sales period with the relationship between the company and customer in future. Revenue cycle coordinates payment process and entire customer engagement from the beginning to end. With its concept, one can state that it begins with customer capture and marketing, which advances through the provision of services and goods. It concludes with customer payments which includes refunds and returns. Customers, who proceeds along the revenue cycle, touches different areas in a company, such as, fulfillment team, sales team, customer service representative. Whenever shoppers make purchases, they use expenditure cycle. Some following steps are there followed by them- they determine the need to purchase the product, comparing prices along with the suppliers. For example, if a company periodically buys such office products, then the expenditure cycle would be producing purchase orders generated from different employee requests for more amount of materials, whose order are placed using purchase order (Wright, 2015). The bond between a father and son, especially growing up in Afghanistan in the late 1970ââ¬â¢s, is often a relationship filled with pain and agony in order to teach viable lessons to his son. In Khaled Hosseiniââ¬â¢s, The Kite Runner, overseeing the bonds between fathers and sons demonstrates the importance of having a father figure in your life and the many valuable lessons a father can teach his son. Throughout the novel, different parenting styles are represented through each of the fatherly figures, causing the young boys to have very different experiences while growing up. The relationships between Baba and Amir, Hassan and Sohrab, and Amir and Sohrab all demonstrate the significance of having a fatherly figure in your life and how different parenting styles can affect your development as a child. The Kite Runner is focused on the growing relationships between father and son but more specifically, Baba and Amir. Initially, when Amir is still a young boy, the relationship between himself and Baba is very distant. Amir struggles trying to get his fathers attention when all Baba can focus on is how different his son is from him. In a conversation between Baba and Rahim Khan, Amir overhears the two friends discussing the many differences the father and son have. ââ¬Å"Heââ¬â¢s always buried in those books or shuffling around the house like heââ¬â¢s lost in some dreamI wasnââ¬â¢t like that.â⬠(Hosseini 21). Baba cannot understand how his son does not share any of the same interests as him and how his personality does not mirror his own. Since Baba cannot get past their different characteristics, he never tries to develop a relationship with his son. The only connection Baba believes he has with Amir is the fact that his wife gave birth to her. A pediatrician is a physician who treats children. The choice to care for children should be based on a love for children and a belief that it is a significant accomplishment to make a difference in a childs life. As a bonus, a pediatrician gets to hold his patients in his arms, to see them grow and change, and years later, to see the adults they have become. Three responsibilities a pediatrician assumes it conducting yearly health history survey, with care plans and intervention guides as appropriate, monitoring immunization compliance and tuberculin skin testing, and developing and implementing the health component of Individual Education Plans. I chose to be a pediatrician because I have a love for children. I have been around children my whole life, we ever I had a little cousin I couldnââ¬â¢t resist just picking them up and they have always brought joy to my day. To be come a pediatrician, after high school I need four years of undergraduate courses at a college or university, which will get me a BS, BA, or other Bachelor degrees. After that I need four years of medical school, which will get me a MD or DO degree. Then after completing that I become a general doctor and have three more years of residency at a local hospital. Then I become a pediatrician and eligible to become certified in pediatrics by passing several tests dealing with medical conditions. The salary for a pediatrician is, while a resident $30,000-$40,000 per year, after residency $100,000-$140,000, then the average pediatrician makes $140,000 a year, but ranging all the way to $300,000 per year. There are many of illnesses that pediatricians encounter deal with children but some are, chickenpox, ear infections, the flu, fevers and other illnesses that can get more dramatic than that. Pediatricians require many different qualities to be a success doctor, some are be able to commit varies hours at a time to the hospital with previous notice, friendly, caring, good communication skills, and able to work with others in different conditions. Some qualities that might hinder being a successful doctor is bad people skills, not having patience, getting upset when something doesnââ¬â¢t go right, and the ability not to be able to deal with the varies conditions people go through. For my second career choice I chose to become a cardiac nurse. What is a cardiac nurse? A cardiac nurse is a person who meets the needs for education and the support of patients with coronary heart disease who are making lifestyle changes to prevent worsening of the disease. After hearing all the different things they do and whom they help, I decided that that could be a career that I would enjoy. Cardiac nurses have many different responsibilities, but a couple of them are proving acute care to people with heart problems, evaluating chronic health problems, monitoring their patients while they are doing workouts, and providing the right medication and help the patients need. I chose this profession because I believe that helping people is the right thing to do. Also with this field dealing with the elderly it made it stand out even more. I know that the older people are the past knowledge to they younger generation, and without them we would not know some things that they inform us of. Also I will be able to learn about the way the heart functions better and what each part does. In order to be come a cardiac nurse you first have receive a high school diploma then you have to graduate from a nursing program to be eligible to take the nursing examination. Then you must receive at least one of the three possible certificates like: a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN), an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or a Hospital Diploma. Although the salary for a nurse varies depending on education the starting salary starts at $30,000 to $45,000 per year, plus additional pay for evening, nights and weekends shifts. Their benefits include health insurance, vacation, holiday pay, college tuition reimbursement, childcare, flexible scheduling and pension plans. Florence Nightingale was one of the most important people that died who made a big contribution to the nursing field. She then studied at the Institute for Protestant Deaconesses at Kaiserworth, Germany. In 1853, she became superintendent of the Hospital for Invalid Gentlewomen in London. She volunteered her services in 1854 in the Scutari after the Crimean War broke out. Through her efforts, the mortality rates among the sick and wounded was greatly reduced. After the war, in 1869, Nightingale founded the Nightingale School Home for Nurses at Saint Thomass Hospital in London, marking the beginning of professional education in nursing. The different types of illnesses that cardiac nurses face/treat are acute heart attacks and bypasses. In order to be a nurse you have to have to have patience, be able to deal with elderly people, the ability to be on call at different times, good communication skills, teaching commitment to physical fitness and well-being, and emergency management. Some qualities that might hinder success is a bad attitude, not committed to the job, and not being a people person. Unfortunately, this ease has resulted in a lot of unease about how information is disseminated. Early online information about the recent massacre of children and adults at a Connecticut school is a case in point. Initial reports identified the killer as a man named Ryan Lanza, though, as it turns out, Lanzaââ¬â¢s younger brother, the real perpetrator of this horror, who killed himself, had apparently used his brotherââ¬â¢s identification during the incident. But by the time this ruse was detected, the innocent brother had been harassed and threatened online by people who read or heard the inaccurate information, and he issued distraught denials on his Facebook page. Imagine the tragedy that would have occurred if some self-righteous vigilante, missing or ignoring his declaration of innocence, had stormed the elder Lanzaââ¬â¢s home or office and killed him. In addition, reports varied about the number and type of guns the perpetrator used, prompting online debates about gun control based on the firepower and capacity of the weapons apparently used. Such careless argument before the facts are straight just confuses what is already an emotionally charged social issue. News media, including television and radio news programs and newspapers and magazines, sometimes make such mistakes, and when the information is significant, such sources retract it as soon as possible. Sometimes, itââ¬â¢s too late, and the damage is done. But usually, because of generally stringent standards for gathering facts for reporting, the erroneous information is never released in the first place. But now that virtually anyone, anywhere can post or otherwise disseminate mistaken ââ¬Å"facts,â⬠the risk of tragic consequences is multiplied. Even fairly innocuous information can be damaging, so take care when passing along a piece of news: 1. Before blogging or tweeting information, verify though reputable news sources or, better yet, directly from those involved that it is correct. (Two other ways of putting it: If something seems too good to be true, it probably is, and, more lightheartedly, if your mother tells you she loves you, check it out.) 2. Being correct is more important than being first. 3. Clearly distinguish fact from opinion in your own commentary, and be alert for your own biases. 4. If you do introduce or repeat misinformation, correct it as soon and as prominently as possible. 5. Most important, if you fail to heed any of these tips, learn from your failures so that next time, there is no next time. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? They concealed their controversial and suspicious dealings and transaction with their growing debt so that they appear debt-free and admirable to stockholders and the public. At last, every lie and cover up was made known to many when the company suddenly and unexpectedly filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. That was their last resort. Not even company partnerships and affiliations could save the money and the glory of Enron. When the news of bankruptcy of Enron was revealed, the reasons behind Enronââ¬â¢s downfall remained unclear and uncertain. There were mixed reactions among businessmen, politicians, stockholders and others. Most of them were enraged while some felt concerned. There were those who were not surprise that the discrepancies with the financial statements could actually happen. It was as if it was the common habit among those who wish to decrease their debt. Questions such as the reason behind the downfall as well as the possible ways and means for preventing bankruptcy rose among the interested public. What hindered the company or the government from foreseeing the end of Enron? Was there money laundering or fraud behind the scandal? If there was, has the laws implemented by the government sufficient to verify the financial records of Enron? To shed light on the Enron controversy, a whistleblower, Sherron Watkins, decided to confess all the financial secrets of the company. The government took its role by initiating an investigation powered up by some of the congressional committees. Aside from Watkins, other key players admitted their involvement and decided to testify while some still pleads not guilty. The involvement of an accounting firm as reputable as Arthur Andersen with the controversy, heightened the interest of the public as well as legislators, economists and politicians. The firm also experienced a great loss even though the verdict has not yet been announced. Their clients retracted their loyalty and shifted to other competitive firms. Some employees resigned and sought other jobs from other companies. The accounting firm did a great job on the falsification and manipulation of Enron's financial statements that the discrepancies remained unnoticed to the public and to the government. The implications of the scandal in the political arena was expected since it had close ties with the White House due to the fact that the once prestigious company spent millions of dollars to support Bush's presidential campaign last 2002 elections. Aside from that, Enron's chief executive had personal and friendly relationships with Bush. The latter distanced from Kenneth Lay to prevent any public misconceptions. The investigations of the scandal also revealed that the company requested the presence of two US cabinet members preceding their file for bankruptcy. Even the current vice-president Dick Cheney did not escape the political associations between the government and Enron. The vice resident had several meetings with the executives of the company in lieu of their energy administration plans. The economic implications of the Enron case included the accounting industry's review of their financial policies with the fear of having the same fate as Enron. Other companies who also used the same aggressive accounting methods as Enron have been affected. They steered away from the limelight and have seemed to have lay-low for the meantime while the issues are still steaming. Enron was not the only one negatively affected by the scandal for the same fate went to Arthur Andersen. He was found guilty of destruction of financial records which Elenor Gamboahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18135419169307552630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8192809378039021807.post-41637376999113244092020-02-01T13:19:00.001-08:002020-02-01T13:19:04.582-08:00The Art Fund in International Studies Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words - 1The Art Fund in International Studies - Essay Example Prior studies in this field, have recorded the impacts of international relations on the technology, international law, economics, history, philosophy, social work, geography, criminology, anthropology, gender studies, psychology and cultural studies. These studies recorded a number of issues that resulted from international relations. These include globalization, international security, state sovereignty, ecological sustainability, nationalism, global finance, economic development, nuclear proliferation, terrorism, human security, organized crime, human rights, and foreign intervention. Despite the many merits of international relations, there is apparently no documented study on the impact of international relations on agricultural education. This has created a gap in the previous studies. In attempts to cover the gap in prior studies, this paper proposes a research to investigate the impacts of international relations on agricultural education. The prime aim of this study is to fi nd out the effects of international relation on agricultural education. By the end of this study, the researcher would be able to establish the effects of international relations in respect to agricultural education. The researcher will find out the merits and demerits of international relations on agricultural education. "Yep. Seems they use their trucks as trucks less than twenty-five percent of the time"... "What do they use them as the rest of the time?"I wondered. "Basic transportation. Cars." There. A small, barely detectable synaptic spark The truck trisected itself in my mind in to three discrete boxes: one for carrying the engine, one the driver, and one the cargo. Seen in this formulation, it became dramatically evident that the former & latter were quite ample, but between them they sandwiched a rather stingy, cramped volume for the human cargo. And yet, according to Sheldon Payne's information, it was precisely this middle box that was most important and received the greatest use. In his essay "The Three Domains of Creativity" Arthur Koestler states that, "Creativity often starts where language ends, by regressing to preverbal levels, to more fluid and uncommitted forms of mental activity." Although at that point in the essay, he is speaking of scientific creativity, later on he conveys that it can be applied to almost any kind of creativity. Take Hirshberg in the above passage as an example. He was trying to access the raw information gathered by the marketing department at Nissan about what improvements consumers wanted in the light trucks. When he got to a point where his idea began to form in his mind, he stopped talking and started visualizing how he could redesign the new model of the truck. Another example of non-verbal thinking is shown in Ron Howard's film A Beautiful Mind, where John Nash is in a bar with his friends and he reasons out his new idea that won a Nobel Prize. His reasoning on the screen is shown as images of his friends and the girls they are trying to "get", as he thinks of how they could all win. The scene mirrors how he came up with his revolutionary theory. Koestler also emphasizes this idea of the visual playing a greater part in creativity than verbal thinking with the results of an inquiry, in 1945, into the working methods of eminent mathematicians in America. He wrote, "The results showed that all of them, with only two exceptions, thought neither in verbal terms nor in algebraic symbols but relied on visual imagery of a vague, hazy kind. The income statement begins with revenues followed by a list of expenses. U. S. GAAP and IFRS requirements for the presentation of income statements are similar, with some important differences. *Other than separating revenues from expenses, U. S. GAAP provides little guidance about which items the firm must separately display or their order. IFRS requires, at a minimum, the separate display of revenues, financing costs (for example, interest expense), income tax expense, profit or loss for the period, and certain other items. *Both U. S. GAAP and IFRS require the separate display of items whose size, nature, or frequency of occurrence make such separate display necessary for accurately portraying performance. *Both U. S. GAAP and IFRS require separate display of items related to discontinued operations, a topic discussed in Chapter 14. *IFRS requires separate display of the portion of profit or loss attributable to the minor- ity (noncontrolling) interest and the portion attributable to the parent entity, a topic dis- cussed in more detail in Chapter 13. U. S. GAAP contains a similar requirement starting in 2009 for most firms. IFRS permits firms to present expenses by either nature or function; although U. S. GAAP is silent on this issue, guidance from the Securities and Exchange Commission requires registrants to classify expenses by function. 4 REVENUE RECOGNITION Revenue recognition refers to the timing and measurement of revenues. Management applies the revenue recognition criteria of authoritative guidance to decide whether a given transac- tion meets the criteria and so results in recording revenues (and the related expenses). Reve- nue recognition is among the most complex issues in financial reporting. As of the writing of this textbook, U. S. GAAP contains over 200 pieces of authoritative guidance for recognizing revenues. The quantity and complexity of this guidance result from several factors. First, mis- reporting of revenues (either reporting revenues before the firm earns them or reporting non- existent revenues) is the most common form of discovered accounting fraud. 9 Second, firms often bundle products and services and sell them in multiple-element arrangements, and each element of the arrangement has the potential to result in revenue recognition. An example of a multiple-element arrangement is the sale of a machine with an extended five-year war- ranty, installation services, training for employees to learn how to operate the machine, and software upgrades as they become available. This bundled arrangement can contain five or more elements, delivered at different times, but with a single sales price. The selling firm faces difficult recognition and measurement issues in deciding (1 ) whether a given element of the arrangement has separable revenues, and (2) when, and in what amounts, to recognize rev- enues for the separate elements of the arrangement.CRITERIA FOR REVENUE RECOGNITION As a general principle, under the accrual basis of accounting, the firm recognizes revenue when the transaction meets both of the following conditions: 1 . Completion of the earnings process. The seller has done all (or nearly all) that it has prom- ised to do for the customer. That is, the seller has delivered all (or nearly all) of the goods and services it has agreed to provide. 2. Receipt of assets from the customer. The seller has received cash or some other asset that it can convert to cash, for example, by collecting an account receivable. The first criterion focuses on the sellerââ¬â¢s performance. Firms recognize revenues from many sales of goods and services at the time of sale (delivery) because that is often the point of completion of the earnings process, in the sense that the seller has transferred the promised goods to the customer or has performed the promised services. Even if some items remain unperformed (for example, promises to provide warranty services and promises to accept cus- tomer returns), the seller can recognize revenues as long as the unperformed items are not too great a portion of the total arrangement with the customer, and the seller can easonably measure the cost of the unperformed items. 11 The second criterion for revenue recognition focuses on measuring the amount of cash the seller will ultimately receive. The exchange price between the customer (buyer) and seller represents the assets exchanged by the customer for goods and services, and provides the ini- tial measure of revenue. It is a serious mental illness that can have grave consequences for the sufferer and his or her family. Depression is classified as a mood disorder, and a careful diagnosis is required for appropriate treatment. Depression can be treated effectively with psychotherapy, medications, or a combination of these different approaches and the sooner the patient receives treatment, the better the outlook. The two major forms of depression are classified as major depression or dysthymia. Major depression involves a complete loss of functionality on the part of the patient. The patient has trouble sleeping and eating and engaging in the normal activities of his or her life, like working and going to school. The patient has a persistent sense that life is not worth living and cannot take pleasure in the things he or she used to enjoy. Dysthymia is a less disabling form or major depression in which the patient can get through the tasks of daily life but feels little joy and a persistent sense of sadness (Depression, 2012, NIMH: 2-3). However, it is important to note that the symptoms of depression vary from person to person. Adolescents may act out in anger when they are depressed, rather than show the traditional listlessness and lack of affect that characterizes depressed adults (Depression, 2012, NIMH: 9). Also, in Marxistsââ¬â¢ point of view, education only serves two purposes: to reproduce inequalities and social relations of productions and to justify these inequalities through meritocracy. However, Althusser, the neo-Marxist in 1971, points out that education is an Idealogical State Apparatus (ISA), just like media, family and other ideals as well. The main function of education is to pass on the common values in order to maintain and reproduce class discrimination in wealth and authority, generation after generation. This then continues to produce capitalism without the need to enforce it into the society, in the same way ideology is spread subconsciously. Althusser argues that a hidden curriculum exists to achieve this result; the way schools are organized and how knowledge is taught encourages the working class to abide by the rules of the capitalist society and accept the discrimination and failure without any sign of protest. Education acts as a reproduction tool for the capitalist relations of production, Bowles and Gintis (1976) argues. The capitalist relations of production is the hierarchy structure of workers and bosses, as well as the different skills and attitudes used. The role of education confirms the workersââ¬â¢ acceptance and willingness to heed the needs of system. Their correspondence theory suggests that the structure at school links straight to what itââ¬â¢s like at work. In school; teachers are the bosses while students are the workers. Students have to work hard to obtain rewards and success in exams in the same way how workers work hard to get their wage. Also, the theory points out that the higher the individual gets in the system, the more freedom they are given and more responsibility they have to take. Also, Bowles and Gintis states that success isnââ¬â¢t always obtained by academic ability. Injustice is disguised in the educational system as meritocracy. Students who goes against the system and expresses disapproval of the system doesnââ¬â¢t rise above like those that adapts to the rules. Bowles and Gintis also points out that schools yields workers that accepts the position theyââ¬â¢re given, explaining the reasons why white middle-class students have a tendency to do better, even when they lack talent or ability. Because of the hidden curriculum, class discrimination in society comes across as just and rightful. Functionalists believes that education has three functions instead of two. The first function is to keep society in place through conversing the younger generation with important cultural values, such as democracy, equality of opportunity, achievement, competition and more. Durkheim thinks that education needs to draw attention to the moral and ethical duties one needs to obtain in the society. Parsons, just like Durkheim, also identifies the importance of socialization in education. This then creates a meritocratic view for the younger generation to apply to their lives, linking their family to the society outside. Universalistic standards are used in society where one is evaluated by a criteria that applies to everyone, unlike the particularistic standards at home where the childââ¬â¢s status is decided by their parents and other family members. Education introduces the significance of achievement and assists the change to universalistic standards. In Functionalistsââ¬â¢ point of view, the second function of education is to educate compulsory skills to the pupils in order to survive in the todayââ¬â¢s society. General skills apply as well, such as reading, writing, comprehensive listening and more. Over the years, difficulty level continues to rise in the work society as occupations gets more specific. The number of years in compulsory education increases while the level of intricacy soars. The third and last function is to assign the most suitable occupation to veryone, corresponding to their qualifications, talents and success in academic achievements. The most talented ones are designated for the more significant roles in society. Due to the equality of opportunity, this is the most fair and just way to allocate specific occupations to an individual. Overall, I agree with the Functionalistsââ¬â¢ point of view, wh ere occupations are assigned to individuals through equality of opportunity and meritocracy. There are many examples in the society when one is not in the middle or upper class, yet achieves success in their occupation and life through their intellectual ability and talent. As long as one has the motivation, I believe that it doesnââ¬â¢t take long for others to recognize that initiative and notice his ambition to succeed. Personally, I donââ¬â¢t agree with the statement that the main function of education is to reproduce the social class structure. Instead, I believe that itââ¬â¢s changed over the past decades and have moved on from class to something more knowledge. I reckon that the main function currently is to educate the new generation with knowledge and skills to achieve success in life. As Steve Droke once said, ââ¬Å"Knowledge is power and enthusiasm pulls the switch. â⬠Elenor Gamboahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18135419169307552630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8192809378039021807.post-23535345405055376742019-11-29T02:28:00.001-08:002019-11-29T02:28:07.013-08:00The Bottled Leopard Essay ExampleThe Bottled Leopard Essay Within the inner recess of manââ¬â¢s subconscious is a leopard bottled and contained by morals and the social order. However, from time to time the cork pops, and the leopard emerges and is seen, wild as ever. An example of this is described by Patrick Goldstein in the article ââ¬Å"Violence Sneaks into Punk Sceneâ⬠. This article describes the atypical activities of the youth, who seize the opportunity to un-bottle the leopard. Three perspectives of violence had been postulated to explain human behavior regarding violence in general. In this regard, a synthesis and an amalgamation of the three perspectives discussed are necessary to completely and entirely elucidate the atypical behavior demonstrated by these specific individuals.Three perspectives on violence were written by Sigmund Freud, John Dollard and David Riesman. Sigmund Freud, in his perspective, said that man has an inherent desire for aggression which is to be seen as part of manââ¬â¢s instinctive endowment an d which he uses to assert himself in his environment. John Dollard, on the other hand, relates violence with age, saying that the more mature man becomes, the greater the inhibition and thus the lesser violence is perpetrated in response to instigation. Lastly, David Riesman views the individual as part of a group, a social being, and as an isolate and desolate creature. Man is therefore under the influence of the needs of the group where he belongs, each of which he knows either directly or indirectly. He therefore seeks to act in conformity with the goals of this group whether or not these people are present. All in all, these perspectives apparently point to the fact, that though the reasons may be different, given the right stimulus, man loses all the calm and charm brought about by morals and social order. The discrepancies of the forms of these stimuli are amazing. In the article, the only stimulus the boys needed was the opportunity, created by there being together in a club i n which a certain kind of dance (slam) whose ââ¬Å"object is to knock each other downâ⬠took place. This then ends up in fights, injuries, and vandalism. Since their objective in this activity is to ââ¬Å"knockâ⬠others down, it also implies that this activity causes feelings of anger and consequently creates channels for the un-bottling of the leopard. Some, however, just reach out and hurt others for reason unknown and there are also those who inflict injuries on themselves. In Sigmund Freudââ¬â¢s perspective on violence, he challenges the ideal picture of modern man in a civil society. He declares that inside man, the ââ¬Å"desire for aggression has to be reckoned as part of their instinctual endowmentâ⬠. He refers to the aggression as an ââ¬Å"endowmentâ⬠, as a result, pointing to an asset which man uses to assert him and dominate the environment. These facts of aggression, he claims, can not be disputed by anyone ââ¬Å"in the face of evidence in his o wn life and in historyâ⬠. Indeed, further evidence of this is seen in Goldsteinââ¬â¢s article, where it is said: ââ¬Å"The senseless violence, vandalism and even mutilation at some area rock clubs reads like reports from a war zone.â⬠Freud therefore asserts that the leopard is inherent in man and that ââ¬Å"when those forces in the mind which inhibit it cease to operate, it manifests itself spontaneouslyâ⬠. These forces of inhibition vary among morals, shame, and disgust shown by the people whom he feels the need to be liked by. These forces act as a leash and in the absence of which, order and tranquility quickly gives way to aggression and anarchy.Freud further declares that though this aggression awaits temptation or provocation. It also asserts itself in situations in which the intended aim ââ¬Å"might as well have been achieved by milder measures.â⬠This is shown in Goldsteinââ¬â¢s article by a fan who says: ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢All they want to do is fi ght. And next time Iââ¬â¢m gonna be ready to give ââ¬Ëem oneââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ . In this case, the fan here carries this aggression which he wishes to express because of some form of provocation. He does not however consider that in retaliating, he becomes part of them and becomes a nuisance to others, just as he feels now. A milder option would be simply to avoid the dancers and carry out activities away from them. After all, there are those others in the audience who ââ¬Å"dance in a loose circle around the actionâ⬠. This way he does not disturb others and does not become part of them. While Freudââ¬â¢s theories explain manââ¬â¢s inhumanity to man, it does not explain the self inflicted injuries and torture expressed in the article: ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ a couple of girls carved Xââ¬â¢s into their arms with broken glassâ⬠. Man does not assert himself with self affliction; he in fact needs the body to assert himself. Freudââ¬â¢s theory, however, did not cover this behavior. The animosity between the demands of instinct and the restrictions of civilization makes Freuds views on manââ¬â¢s aggressive or destructive instincts particularly complex. In part this is because impulses of hatred, anger and aggression are, from Freudââ¬â¢s perspective, rooted in self-preservation. In Freudââ¬â¢s vision of man and society, violence is deemed as the basis of our existence on two levels; the violence in the uninhibited instinct and the violence which our culture practices against one another. Without at least some amount of compulsion and at least an equal amount of restraint in the gratification of impulses, harmony can neither be achieved nor maintained. The perspective of John Dollard gives further insight into the forces of inhibition expressed by Freud. Dollard declares that this inhibition is greater in adults ââ¬Å"resulting from several sources of instigationâ⬠. The adult, having being exposed over time to various opportunities or ins tigations for aggression, has now programmed his response to that which is more generally acceptable in the society. His response is therefore not dependent on the instigation but on what holds in his environment. Thatââ¬â¢s what makes him acceptable in his society. The adolescent, on the other hand, who is less exposed and has less knowledge of the society to which the adult is exposed, resorts to aggression against frustrating forces, as expressed in the article thus: ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ these idiots kept punching us in the back. Finally I got fed up and started hitting these guys, even though they were bigger than meâ⬠. At this point the young man was focused on aggression. He does not even consider the size of the people, which he would have done under normal circumstances as he expressed in saying ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ even though they were bigger than me.â⬠However in becoming mature, the youth would learn that which is acceptable in the society and respond accordingly.John D ollardââ¬â¢s perspective, however, still does not capture the self afflicted torture expressed in the article. This cannot be captured in other part of ââ¬Å"the predominant behavior symptoms of adolescenceâ⬠which he refers to as ââ¬Å"substitute response for those goal-responses which suffer interferenceâ⬠. For self afflicted torture cannot be a substitute response for interference as it lacks a goal. John Dollard elucidates the need for acceptance inherent in man.David Riesman declares, in his perspective of violence, that peer-group, reinforced by the mass media, and the relaxation of older patterns of discipline in children gives rise to what he called ââ¬Å"other-directedâ⬠character in which ââ¬Å"contemporaries are the source of direction for the individual ââ¬â either those known to him or those with whom he is indirectly acquainted, through friends and through the mass mediaâ⬠.à Dependence on these is planted early in life due to continuou s exposure to these influences. He further explains that the goals towards which the other-directed person strives shift with guidance from the source, permitting a close behavioral conformity ââ¬Å"through an exceptional sensitivity to the actions and wishes of othersâ⬠and ââ¬Å"not through drill in behavior itself, as in tradition-directed characterâ⬠.This perspective of the situation is the most compelling as it explains the group action of the boys, which shows the other-directed behavior. This is expressed in the article where violence is blamed on ââ¬Å"â⬠¦ organized Huntington Beach-area punk gangs who make a practice of pummeling each other and slam dancing at area clubs.â⬠The perspective therefore takes violence beyond just the individual but to the individual as a part of a group and his need to be accepted in the group. The individual therefore does not act independently, rather, it strives to synchronize with the group. Also like non-other, this p erspective explains the action of those who inflict injuries on themselves as reported in the article where a girl ââ¬Å"broke a bunch of beer bottles in the sink and ran her hands through the glassâ⬠and ââ¬Å"girls carved Xââ¬â¢s into their arms with broken glassâ⬠. In all these cases, people acted in an other-directed manner driven by the ââ¬Å"need for approval and direction from othersâ⬠which is now the ââ¬Å"chief source of direction and chief area of sensitivityâ⬠. Thus, even when alone, the other-directed person conforms to the ââ¬Å"othersâ⬠and seeks acceptance.Beside the bottled leopard is the need in man to be accepted. Man carries this as a social being. This drives man to violence and thus un-bottles the leopard when the group to which he wishes to synchronize with is violent. It can, however, cause a stronger hold on the leopard if the group is not violent. Nonetheless, there are still selected situations wherein the leopard emerges, bringing surprise to all even the man himself. Notably, man should always remember that how much he knows himself determines how often will this occur.;; Elenor Gamboahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18135419169307552630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8192809378039021807.post-59347669789580744122019-11-25T10:02:00.001-08:002019-11-25T10:02:04.912-08:00Japanese Garden essaysJapanese Garden essays -A contribution of building ethnology to Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zurich Throughout long periods of time and in many cultures the human spirit has been preoccupied with trees. Evidence of this is to be found in the many representations, pictorial and textual, which tell us of sacred trees, trees of life and light, cosmic or world trees, the Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden, trees of everlasting life, of eternal youth and so on. The wide extent of symbolism centered on the tree and its long history as the focal point of ideal worlds is also reflected in the many studies and investigations on this subject. The abundance of studies is due not only to the great extent of mans spiritual relationship to trees, but also to modern mans attraction to the rich symbolism surrounding the tree. The fantastic associations with which primitive cultures have invested something that now appears to us as a natural object are indicative of a way of thinking that, in its stronger imaginative power, completely overshadows our own And yet, are we right in our ideas about this earlier power of imagination? Has symbolic thinking of this kind really sprung exclusively from the spirit As suggested by the German word Einbildung ( inimagination ), might it not have been sparked off by structures of the world of things Does symbolism only seem fantastic because it derives from events of cultural history which are now lost in the depths of time In other words, could it be that what we regard as specifically spiritual in mans relation to the tree is actually traceable to lost culture ... Notably, the speaker sounds bitter and portrays her revenge towards the mistreatment she receives from male counterparts. Additionally, the beginning of this first stanza sets a remorseful environment that is sustained across the entire poem. While the writer appears to direct her bitterness and regrets towards her daddy, it should be clear that the daddy represents male category in the society that has continued derail freedom to the female counterparts. The entire poem is full of metaphors that include black shoe, like a Nazi, like a Swastika and like a Vampire. The terms are intelligently used to summarize the views of the speaker towards male species. In her world, she finds men barbaric, cruel, just like Nazi, and she describes herself figuratively as a jew (Holbrook 12). Historically, Jews were racial persecuted during the harsh German rule through killing, maiming and racial cleansing. Surprisingly, the speaker plays this victim role and curses her daddy for high-handedness that described her earlier Elenor Gamboahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18135419169307552630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8192809378039021807.post-48230846963061787652019-11-16T02:40:00.001-08:002019-11-16T02:40:09.716-08:00Case Study on Palliative Care: Example AnswersCase Study on Palliative Care: Example Answers Carol is a 48 year old woman who lives with her husband Dean and three children. Carols three children, Josephine (15 years), Harry (12 years) and Sarah (8 years) are aware their mother has cancer, but have not been told of the development of secondary disease or the implications this carries. The family run a small general store in an outer suburb of Perth. Carol was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago, originally undergoing a right lumpectomy with adjuvant chemotherapy. Last year Carol was diagnosed with bone secondaries. Since that time she has been receiving tamoxifen and attending the oncology clinic for follow-up. The community palliative care nurse visits Carol once a month to monitor her progress and provide emotional support. While visiting Carol the nurse notes that she appears to be in considerable discomfort, though she denies any pain. On questioning Dean, the nurse learns that Carol has been found crying and holding her hip, but refuses to seek medical attention. Why do you think Carol is reluctant to seek medical attention and acknowledge her pain? ANSWER: Carol is reluctant to seek the medical attention because she is fed up with the medical checkups and also she receives no positive improvement in her health so she herself concluded to not to waste the money on her health and let them safe for her three children (Matthews, 2008). As Carol begins to receive palliative care, which members of the palliative care team do you think need to be involved in her care? Briefly describe the role of each. ANSWER: The family members of Carol play an important role in the team of palliative care and especially the role of Dean was very crucial because he is the person who could fill the strength in Carol to fight against this dangerous disease ( Foley, 2001). Investigations of Carols pain revealed bony secondaries. She was offered a course of radiotherapy, but refused as this would mean going to the city (55km away) every day, and she would be away from the shop at the busiest time of the year. Carol agreed to recommencing chemotherapy, and was commenced on regular panadeine forte (two every four hours) for her pain. Carol has been troubled by nausea and vomiting after each course of chemotherapy. On a follow up visit five days after Carols last chemotherapy, the community nurse discovers that Carol is constantly nauseated, vomiting several times a day and unable to keep any fluids down. Identify the possible causes of Carols nausea and vomiting. ANSWER: Chemotherapy involves the killing of cancerous cells from the patients body thus due to these heavier operations on Carols body would make her uneasy and thus she has nausea and vomiting (Ferrell, 2006). Describe the management strategies for the various probable cause(s) of Carols nausea and vomiting. ANSWER: Management strategies should be in order to give her strict instructions to be away from strong odours, not to lay flat after eating, have some light exercise after eating, to eat in smaller amounts and most importantly keep her mind relaxed and try to forget about the chemotherapy (Hesketh, 2005). On a follow-up visit, the community nurse discovers that Carol is only achieving two hours pain relief after her tablets and is taking them more frequently, but is reluctant to consider changing to stronger medication. Identify the appropriate steps for assessing Carols pain. ANSWER: She should be checked to take medicines on her own i.e. someone from her family should take the responsibility to fetch her with medicines; also management should maintain a regular chart of the total amount of daily doses and the time span of pain she have(McMann,à 2009). After consultation with the general practitioner, the community nurse discusses changing Carols analgesia to something stronger. Carol is very reluctant as she feels she will only become addicted to hard drugs if she uses them now. Carol expresses concerns about having this type of medication in the house with young children around. What are the possible reasons for Carols reluctance to change her medication, and how could this be overcome? ANSWER: Carol main reason for reluctance was that she wants to be with her family also she wants to save money as she could not afford the hospitals expenses and hence she wants the whole medication to be done at her home. This can be overcome if and only if the management gives some relaxation in the expenses (Visel, 2006). Carol reluctantly agrees to a trial of oral morphine, initially in short-acting form until the dose is titrated. She is commenced on 10mg of oral morphine 4th hourly. What education should the nurse give Carol about commencing and taking morphine? ANSWER: The nurse should tell her to handle some pain and extend the period of taking the morphine from 2 hours interval to 4 hours interval so that she could develop some resistive powers in herself (Bruera, 2003). When should Carol be considered for conversion to controlled (slow) release morphine, and how would the dose be calculated for this? ANSWER: As soon as Carol feels that she has generated enough resistive power then the controlled doses of morphine should be given and the period should be increased rose to the power of 2 i.e. 2, 4, 8, 16 and finally it should be stopped (Bruera, 2003). Identify adjuvant medication that may be helpful in Carols case. ANSWER: Herceptin drug can be used as the adjuvant medication because it interferes with growth of cancer cells and slows their growth and spread in the body (Knox, 2004). Carol is reluctantly taking morphine 30mg every four hours and Naprosyn 500mg b.d. for her pain. When visiting Carol one day the community nurse finds Carol vomiting and complaining of catching a gastro bug from one of the children. On questioning Carol states she has had small frequent amounts of diarrhoea for 5-6 days, and has not had a normal bowel motion for two weeks. Carol is notably dry, complains of thirst, has a coated tongue, and a distended abdomen. What nursing investigations would you carry out? ANSWER: The infection is been spreading in her family due to the contact of virus released by the vomiting of the Carol. Hence personal hygiene should be maintained (Yarbro, 2005). What nursing strategies would you implement to relieve Carols symptoms? ANSWER: For relieving Carols symptoms the basic nursing strategies should ensure that the toiletry area should properly cleaned using diluted bleach, she must wash her hand after using the toilet, her clothes must be washed in warm water, and lastly the nurse should suggest her the BRAT food i.e. Banana Rice Applesauce and Toast as the main food from time to time and drink as much liquid as she discharges in her stools (Yarbro, 2005). Carols appetite has decreased and she is eating only very small amounts of food. She is not nauseous. Dean is finding it hard to accept that Carol doesnt need food and worries that without food Carol will die. What will you tell Dean about Carols loss of appetite? ANSWER: We will tell him not to panic because this loss of appetite is only due to the gastro effects and it will be removed as soon as the medicines perform their proper function (Ko, 2008). What strategies can you use to help Carol increase her intake? ANSWER: After giving her enough liquid food we will ask Carol to perform light exercises which could help her to burn more calories and so she will feel a good hunger for receiving a good nutrition (Ko, 2008). Carol has become increasingly bedbound and is spending many hours sleeping, and at times becomes restless. She has refused all further chemotherapy and blood tests and is aware her time is limited. Carol has told Dean that she would like to die at home. What do you need to consider to ensure that Carol can be cared for at home (eg. equipment, care needs etc)? ANSWER: The main consideration would be based on finding ways so that she must not get any complication in terms of medical facility. Hence important equipments must be installed with a good experienced nurse who remains with Carol in her house for 24 hours (Keir, 2002). The community nurse is called late at night because Carol has become semi-conscious, but is calling out and very restless. On arrival the nurse finds Carol agitated and restless in bed, with an increased respiratory rate, an obvious frown and unable to respond to questions. On questioning Dean states that he was unable to administer her last two doses of morphine slow release tablets. Carol has not taken fluids for several days, nor passed urine for eighteen hours. Identify the possible cause(s) for Carols restlessness and suggest treatments. ANSWER: Carols restlessness is only due to improper metabolism of her body so she should be given liquids as much as she could take and finally she must be made to discharge the urine (smith, 2006). The community nurse suggests insertion of a subcutaneous butterfly needle to administer Carols morphine for pain control. Dean becomes distressed, questioning the need for morphine when his wife is almost unconscious. He accuses the nurse of trying to hurry things along. What is an appropriate nursing response to Deans concerns? ANSWER: Nurse should send Dean outside the room and tell him to keep patience and keep faith, she will do the appropriate nursing of Carol (Kearny, 2006). Carol remains unconscious for several days. Josephine expresses concern that her mother has not had any fluids for several days and questions whether she should be admitted to hospital so intravenous fluids could be commenced. Josephine questions if it is cruel to let her mother die of dehydration? What explanation could the nurse give in response to Josephines concerns? ANSWER: Nurse should give condolence to Josephine and not to worry because she will take care of her mother in every aspects of medical concern (Alexander, 2000). What nursing actions will ensure that Carol is comfortable despite no oral intake? ANSWER: The basic nursing action that a nurse should check Carols pulse rate and blood pressure, if everything is normal then there it is ensured that Carol is comfortable despite of having no oral intake (Alexander, 2000). Dean approaches the palliative care nurse for assistance the next day. He states the children, in particular Sarah, are asking questions he doesnt know how to answer. Sarah asks detailed questions about what will happen to Carol before and after she dies, and appears to have a morbid interest in the details of death. Identify strategies to assist children dealing with death. ANSWER: While assisting children dealing with death the children of small age should be taken away from the house and make them busy in some games while elder children should understand itself how to manage with the condition (Schaefer, 2002). Carol died at 4.30 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon, with Dean, the three children and her mother by her side. Her death was described by the palliative care nurse as peaceful, but her dying as a struggle. What bereavement follow up could be put in place for this family? ANSWER: Carol was a strong fighter and she fights with her disease with silence and lots of courage, this death would keep soul free from the struggles that she had faced during her illness. God bless her soul Amen (Schaefer, 2002). This theory stated that if the U.S. allowed one country to fall to communism, those around it would fall, and then those around it, eventually taking over the whole world. However, the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 allows to approach communism in a new light. The Communist Manifesto has three sections. The first is an outline of the history of the bourgeois and the proletariat, and a explanation on how the bourgeoisà will bring about their defeat. The second section shows the framework of the communist goals, and their long range plan to abolish private property. The last section criticizes other socialist attempts at the time, calling all workers to unite under communism. The bourgeois Marx speaks of in the manifesto is simply the capitalist of the time. The proletariat are the workers of the world, people who, according to Marx, have "[become] an appendage of the machine."(Marx 3) Marx speaks of their horrible fate saying "they are daily and hourly enslaved by the machine, by the overlooker, and, above all, by the individual bourgeois manufacturer himself."(Marx 3) Marx documents the stages of the proletariatà s struggle with the bourgeois: "at first the contest is carried on by individual laborers, then by the workpeople of a factory, then the operatives of one trade, in one locality, against the bourgeois that directly exploits them."(Marx 4) Marx tells ho... ...e Vietnam war rages on. Bloodshed and military advances ground to a halt decades ago, but the real battle lies in creating a Vietnam that can lift itself out of poverty. The war succeeded more in pushing the country deeper into communism than pulling it out. But the outcome is a forgone conclusion: an ideology that no longer fits with the times will not stand.
